We are thrilled to share that we are actively working to acquire two buildings at 1475 El Camino Real, right next to Freedom Pointe at The Villages. These buildings, formerly used for assisted living, total 44 residential units and represent a tremendous opportunity to provide much-needed housing and support services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) right in the heart of The Villages.
Located in the desirable Spanish Springs area, this property is golf cart accessible and sits directly across from UF Health Spanish Plaines Regional Hospital. It’s also just a short distance from Spanish Springs Town Square, shopping centers, and commercial businesses, making it an ideal setting for community engagement, recreational outings, and potential part-time employment.
Building 1: Two Story Supported Living Facility
The two-story Supported Living Facility spans 27,668 square feet and includes 31 private residential units, each with its own private bathroom. Of these, 9 units are equipped with semi-efficiency kitchens featuring a refrigerator, microwave, and sink – offering added independence for residents. The building also features spacious and comfortable community living and dining areas designed to promote social connection and a sense of home. It will operate like an independent living environment with 24/7 supportive staffing and optional meal service (3 meals daily). It’s designed to empower residents to live as independently as possible while receiving the help they need.
Support services may include:
- Budgeting and bill payment assistance
- Grocery and pharmacy shopping
- Medical appointment planning and transportation
- Medication management
- Meal planning and food inventory
- Coordination with Social Security, Medicaid, and food assistance programs
Building 2: One Story Assisted Living Facility
The one-story Assisted Living Facility encompasses 10,412 square feet and includes 13 private residential units. Each unit has its own private bathroom, with 6 of the units sharing a large walk-in shower. Designed for individuals who require higher levels of daily support, this facility offers a warm, home-like environment with shared community living and dining areas, along with 24/7 full care and supervision to ensure comfort, safety, and dignity.
Support services may include:
- Medication management and monitoring
- Housekeeping and personal hygiene assistance
- Full help with meals, eating, bathing, and mobility
- Transportation and appointment coordination
- Benefits support including Medicaid and Social Security
This project represents an exciting and achievable step toward creating a welcoming, inclusive residential community for adults with IDD in The Villages. With existing buildings ready for adaptive use, this initiative offers the most viable and timely path to providing housing – potentially in months rather than waiting years for new construction.
We are currently in active discussions with the Villages Community Development District (VCDD) to explore eligibility for resident Villages ID cards, which would open even more opportunities for inclusion.
