Become a Partners in Policymaking Participant

The Partners in Policymaking (PIP) program – hosted by Florida Developmental Disabilities Council – offers advocacy training and skill-building workshops for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their family members, and legal guardians. The program aims to empower participants to drive systemic change and improve lives across Florida.

Program Highlights:

  • Eligibility: Open to motivated individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their family members (e.g., parents, siblings, grandparents), and legal guardians.
  • Commitment: Participants must attend six in-person monthly sessions (September–February) in Orlando and complete homework and a major community project.
  • Training Topics: Disability rights history, legislative advocacy, independent living, assistive technology, inclusive communities, and leadership development.
  • Cost: Free of charge, with support for respite care and accommodations.
  • Application Process: Competitive, with up to 25 participants selected annually.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I was accepted into the Partners in Policymaking program. It turned out to be an intense experience packed with information—even more than I thought I already knew! I believe everyone should consider signing up for this program to learn, grow, and start advocating more effectively.
